When should a newborn photo session be scheduled?

Generally, the ideal time for a newborn photo session is considered to be between the first 4-14 days. During this period, babies have deep and long sleep, and colic has usually not yet started. Since the baby hasn't "forgotten" their position in the womb, we can create beautiful poses that showcase their smallness.

I believe the most ideal time frame for the session is between the first 8-11 days, as the baby is not yet disturbed by tummy aches, and the mother and other family members have adjusted to the baby's presence. If possible, schedule your session for this time.

Of course, there are sometimes exceptions. For example, if the baby was born earlier than expected or was discharged later for other reasons, the session day can be postponed.

When should you book a newborn photoshoot?

Since newborn photographers' schedules fill up very quickly, I recommend booking your session during pregnancy.

When you contact me, I reserve a date based on your estimated due date and can prepare for the session according to your preferences. If necessary, we can make small adjustments to the date once your baby is born.

Didn’t book in advance? Still, feel free to reach out to me, preferably before you’re discharged from the hospital. The earlier, the better, as the closest dates may be booked.

Where and how does the photoshoot take place? How should we prepare for it?

I conduct newborn photoshoots in a studio specially equipped for newborn photography. Everything is designed for your comfort and convenience. Since I provide all the necessary materials and accessories for the shoot, no special preparations are required from you. My priority is that you remain calm and comfortable.

However, I have a small list of items for the mother:

- A changing mat;

- A swaddle: I prefer using a familiar-smelling swaddle to help your baby adjust to the environment more easily.

- If possible, a bottle of pumped milk or formula: I use it during the session to calm the baby without disturbing their pose.

- Any drops or remedies you use if your baby has gas;

- Baby cream, if your baby’s skin is peeling;

- A pacifier.

The pacifier is an essential part of the session. Even if your baby doesn’t normally use one, I kindly ask that you bring it for this 2-3 hour session. Your baby won’t get used to it during this time, but it will help us complete the session smoothly.

If family photos are planned, I ask that you wear solid white or pastel-colored outfits.

Please try to adjust your baby’s feeding schedule so that their feeding happens in the studio.

How important is safety in newborn photoshoots?

In newborn photography, the most important aspect is the safety of the little one. To ensure I do my job correctly and beautifully, I’ve attended various training sessions and continue to educate myself. That's why there’s a clear distinction between poses that can and cannot be done during a session. Ensuring the photoshoot is as safe and comfortable as possible because the baby is my top priority.

I don’t attempt difficult or risky poses. When necessary, my trained assistant is there to watch over and support me.

From the beginning to the end of the session, I’m fully aware of the responsibility I carry. Before starting this job, I asked myself just one question: How would you want someone to treat your own children?
